Approached by a very narrow isthmus between two small beaches the Peninsula has the same characteristics as a small island, offering 360° views from numerous vantage points, to Meis island and to the mountains on the mainland. It boasts many small rocky bays, most of which still cannot be reached from the land. It is home to a few small, luxurious hotels which offer a pleasant stop for refreshments on a walk around the perimeter road. A seven minute (3 km) drive gets you into town. There is a dolmus (public transport minibus) into town every hour.

The development within the Peninsula has been fortuitous. Some years ago the land was acquired by the Turkish Journalists Society as an investment. They put in the infra-structure and a plan for sensible and restricted development. As they were a powerful lobby this plan was accepted by the Turkish Government at a time when there were many restrictions on buying property for non-Turks and development outside of established Municipal boundaries was not allowed. This led to high demand and has resulted in an area of exclusive and mostly stylish houses which are largely well separated by green areas. The land, being rocky and sloping steeply, is difficult for building but lends itself to interesting architectural designs and landscaping. There are restrictions on the height, spacing and usage of the properties. The Peninsula is home to some of the finest villas in Turkey. Land here is now very scarce and the recent spate of development is running to a close. It will remain one of the most desirable locations anywhere on the Turkish coast.

The interesting submarine topography, excellent water clarity and for the Mediterranean, varied sea-life, especially around the Peninsula, make Kas one of the most popular diving spots on the Turkish coast.

Several dive schools offer everything from brief introductory sessions to advance certificate courses. For qualified divers and beginners alike the area offers a good selection of easily accessible sites between eight and forty metres.
